Dear Readers,
This issue features ten articles for you this time — on the usual wide range of topics related to ELT of all varieties. In accordance to our editorial policy, all articles feature outcomes that will hopefully be relevant to readers in countries other than the one where the study was conducted. Following in the footsteps of the late Vance Stevens, On the Internet Co-editor, Mark Feng Teng, has crafted an article on “Understanding Anxiety, Self-Efficacy, and Motivation in Online English Learning” that we hope you will find informative.
Manuscript Submission Guidelines. We have clarified our Guidelines by making them into a “checklist” covering all essential points. Now, if first-time submitters would only read them before preparing their paper for submission, we might be able to reduce the number of “desk rejects” which now hovers around 80% of all submissions!
Kudos. We are proud to announce that the Co-editor of our Book Reviews, Dylan Burton, has been named the recipient of this year’s Jacqueline Ross TOEFL® Dissertation Award for his dissertation entitled, “The role of nonverbal behavior and affect on ratings of second language proficiency.” Congratulations, Dylan!
The Best Reviewer Awards for 2023. With this issue we are kicking off a new recognition scheme for our dear reviewers. Each year we will award certificates of appreciation to the 10 reviewers who have done three or more reviews and have achieved the highest average rating for quality and timelines. Since TESL-EJ is a volunteer organization without any source of income, we can only offer them a signed certificate for their efforts. Here we display just their names and current location. And the winners are…
Abdul Syahid (ID) | Colin William Campbell (KR) | David Imamyartha (ID) | Graeme Couper (NZ) |
Ismail Xodabande (IR) | Loc Tan Nguyen (VN | Matthew Nall (JP) | Mohammad Kazemian (IR) |

Passages. As usual, we have a bit of turnover in our staff. Clara Vaz Bauler has decided to not to resume editing duties after her maternity leave. Three kids now, along with her teaching is sufficient to keep her fully busy right now. We look forward assistance again in the future. Dr. Appa Swami Jasti has also had to resign due to his involvement with matters at his university.
Thanks to recent reviewers. We thank the reviewers of all submissions that had reached a decision since our last issue – regardless of whether the paper was accepted or declined.
