Dear Readers,
This issue contains articles on Extensive Reading, concordancing, flipped classrooms, pronunciation and vocabulary acquisition. This issue presents two “On the Internet” articles, one an effective approach to hybrid learning and the other on Tips for using the Internet for academic writing. There are also two media reviews and four book reviews. We are happy to announce that TESL-EJ has improved slightly in its SCOPUS Q1 rating from a Scimago score of 0.399 to 0.417.
Passages. We welcome one more individual as a co-editor, Larry Xethakis, who specializes in SEM (Structural Equation Modelling). While SEM is a valuable analytical tool, we have had a number of submissions where it as not been used appropriately. One of Larry’s roles will be to separate the wheat from the chaff, and to counsel authors on how to use them appropriately. Another co-editor, Ryan Spring, has also been counselling authors on the appropriate use of statistics and how to “drill down” into the numbers to derive more meaningful results. Technical Editor, Aaron Campbell, has been appointed Dean of the Faculty of Global Engagement. Congratulations!
Fund raising. We are extremely grateful to those who responded to our appeal for operating funds for TESL-EJ. We have reached 36% of our intended goal which is sufficient to keep us afloat for one to two years. Donations have run from $20 to $500, and they are all very much appreciated.
The Best Reviewer Awards for 2024. Each year we award certificates of appreciation to the 10 reviewers who have done three or more reviews and have achieved the highest average rating for quality and timelines. Since TESL-EJ is a volunteer organization without any source of income, we can only offer them a signed certificate for their efforts. Here we display just their names and current location. And the winners are…
