Description of the TESL-EJ Co-Editor Position
Our talented team of co-editors plays a key role in the production of TESL-EJ. With the increasing number of submissions to the journal, we are seeking more individuals who are interested in volunteering to take on this challenging work. The basic role of the co-editors is to see the manuscripts through the editorial process until a decision is reached to publish or decline them.
New co-editors are typically selected from individuals whose reviews have consistently received high marks from the managing editors via invitation. Our goal is to respond to new submissions within a week of submission and promptly select qualified reviewers for those submissions deemed “potentially publishable” by the submissions editor.
Note that this position does not require much time, particularly if you have only one or two submission assignments. You only need to read the comments and possibly revisit the original manuscript when a new review of one of your assigned papers arrives, in order to assess the quality of the review. Once all reviews have come in, it may take some time to reassess the reviews and make a recommendation. How often this occurs depends on how many manuscripts you decide to take on. Editors decide for themselves which of the currently pending manuscripts they wish to review.

Duties of the co-editors
- To select reviewers from the TESL-EJ database, which is searchable by topic.
- To check regularly for changes in the status of reviews
- To evaluate the accuracy and quality of received reviews.
- To thank the reviewers for their work and to provide suitable comments if required.
- Once all reviews have been received, the next course of action is to determine, in consultation with the editor-in-chief, whether to accept the paper for publication, return it for revision, or decline it.
- If a paper is to be revised and resubmitted, the co-editor liaises with the writer in the revision process as necessary.
- Zoom meetings are held annually or whenever important policy decisions are required.
